WSFTP Client

WSFTP is one many highly recommended FTP clients used to upload data to your web site. The programs capabilities can transfer data from your computer onto your web site allowing quick and easy uploads and updates you your site.

This walk through tutorial will inform you of WSFTP's capabilities and how this program actually works and can benefit you and your web site.


* The first step is to download the program onto your computer by clicking here.
* Once you have extracted the files and loaded the program onto your computer you are ready to start FTPing.

Below you will see the basic interface of this program. Make sure the "General Tab" is selected and the current information is displayed.

Select "New" to create a connection to your web site.
Now, follow the steps listed below:


Profile Name:
  • Key your web site URL or the name of your web site that identifies it.
  • An example could possibly be: If your domain is www.cheesecakefactory.com, they your name could be "CheeseCakeFactory".

 

HostName/Address

  • Example: (If your domain is www.yourdomain.com, then your ftp connection would be ftp.yourdomain.com. If you domain is www.yourdomain.org, then your ftp address would be http://www.yourdomain.org, ect)

Host Type:

  • You can leave this choice as the default (automatic detect).

UserID & Password:

  • This information was most likely sent to you when signing up with your hosting company/provider. If you have misplaced this information contact your host and request that it be sent to you.
  • Its suggested that you don't give out your password for your web site to anyone who you do not know, you risk the state of your web site.

* All other information including "Accounts" and "Comments" are not necessary to be entered.
* Once all information is entered click "OK" to continue, and connect to your host.


Know that you are connected to your web site you are ready to transfer data from your hard rive to your web site (or vise versa).

To transfer data to your web site browse for your file on the Left and select it. Once you are in the correct directory on the Right click the arrow (highlighted in red) and your data will be carried over.

You can download information from your site by doing the same thing accept using the other arrow (Left arrow).
