World Within Worlds

Download and unzip the picture used in this tutorial here

1. Duplicate background layer by right click ing on the layer and select duplicate. Highlight the background copy

2. Click filter=>distort=>spherize

  • 100 percent
  • normal mode

Reapply the spherize by hitting the control key while hitting the F key.

3. Using the elliptical marquee tool,  start the marquee at the upper left to lower right corner of canvas to highlight the egg shape. Click select =>inverse and hit backspace key.

4. Click select=> inverse again and click on the move tool. Make sure the Show bounding boxes option is checked and resize the shape so that it is close to an exact circle, about 150-200 pixels in diameter.

5. Click on the background layer and Add a new layer between background and background copy.
Control click the background copy. Highlight layer 1. Set grey Hex #999999 as your foreground color and nearly black hex # 333333 on your background color. Select your gradient tool with the radial gradient option.
drag a gradient from middle of the upper left quadrant( between center and 10 o'clock on a clock) to the edge of the marquee on lower right (at 4 o'clock)

6. Click back on your background copy layer and change the mode on the background copy to overlay. Click Layer=> Merge Down to merge the background copy into the layer 1.

7. Click Filter=>Render=>Lens Flare.

  • set flare to 100%
  • USe the 50-300 mm zoom lens

8. Click on the background layer and duplicate this layer. On the background copy, use the elliptical marquee to highlight an oval in the water.

Click Filter=>Distort=>Zigzag

  • pond ripples
  • amount =20%
ridges = 15%
 

9. Right click on your layer1 and select Duplicate layer. Click Edit=>Transform=>Flip Vertical. Click Image=>adjust=>desaturate.

10. Select your move tool, set with bounding boxes showing. Move the image to the bottom of your canvas right under the other globe. Click Edit=>transform=>perspective. Resize the globe with perspective so that the center of the ripples are a the top of the globe and is narrower then the bottom of the globe is wider and at the bottom of your canvas. 

11. Set the opacity of this layer to 50%. Set the mode of this layer to Multiply.
