Alien Tentacles

1. Open a new canvas 400 px X 400 px, RGB, 72 ppi transparent.

2. Insert a new layer by clicking layer=> new=> layer.

3. Using the rectangular marquee, select a rectangle the full height of the canvas, but only 50 pixels wide.

3. Hit your D key followed by X key to set white as foreground color and black as background color. Select the gradient tool set to refection. Click in the middle of the rectangle and drag your cursor to the right edge of the selection while holding the shift key down. Let go. 
 

4. Click edit=>transform=>perspective. Using your mouse, bring the bottom outside handles together at the midpoint. Apply the changes. Deselect.

 


5. Click Filter=>distort=>shear. At about 1/3 of the way down the shear contour, move the line to the right by 1/4 block. At about 2/3 down the central line, move the contour line about 1/4 block left. See picture.


6. Click Image=> adjust=> Hue saturation.

  • check Colorize
  • Hue = 100
  • Saturation = 30
  • Lightness = -40


7. Duplicate this layer. Click Edit=> transform=> flip horizontal. Select the move tool with bounding boxes showing and rotate and move the layer 2 tentacle To align it so all tentacles can be seen.

8. Duplicate layer 1 again. Rotate and move layer 3 until it is positioned the way you want. Add layers and manipulate by rotating and flipping

9. Turn the background off by clicking the eye on the background layer (layer 1). Merge visible layers.

10. Click Filter=>Render=> lighting effects. 

  • lighting: Omni
  • intensity =25
  • color= green
  • gloss= 71 shiny
  • Material = 35 metallic
  • exposure=46
  • ambience = -37
  • Texture channel should be none
  • white is high is checked.

11.Double click the merged tentacle layer to bring up layer styles . Click on the Drop shadow and check it.

  • Blending mode: multiply

  • opacity 36%

  • angle 127

  • Distance 36 pixels

  • spread = 0

  • size = 8

  • contour = straight
