Making Texture Tiles for use as patterns and backgrounds

Back to Textures Page
 

1. Open a new image  Save the file as texture.psd. If you already have one, use the one you have to add layers to.

  1. Call it Texture
  2. 200 wide
  3. 200 high
  4. 72 pixels per inch
  5. RGB
  6. White background

2. Insert a new layer. Call it ripples.

3. Color it Tan using the paint bucket and hex #DDDDDD for foreground. Double click the foreground color. Uncheck web safe colors and add the hex value FFFFFFto the box labeled #.

 

4. Click Filter=>noise=>Add Noise

  • Amount = 400

  • Distribution = Gausian

  • check Monochromatic

Click OK
 

5. Click Filter=>Blur=>Motion Blur

  • Angle = 0

  • Distance = 999


6. Click Filter=>Distort=>wave

  • Generators = 5

  • wavelenth 11, 11

  • Amplitude 5, 35

  • Scale 100%, 100%

  • Type sine wave

  • Bullet Wrap around

Clicking the randomize button changes the look. Find the look you like best and click OK.

 

7.  These settings should create seamless tiles

8. Save your PSD for additional textures. Save your file in Gif or jpg also for the web.
9. Adjust your colors using hue/saturations to get variations of this ripple. Save again.
