Photo Restoration
Project: Rudy baby

1. Open the image in Photoshop. Duplicate the background. Click Image=> Mode=> RGB.

2. Use the Zoom tool to zoom to about 300 - 400% on the image. Add a New layer by clicking the menu Layer=> new=> layer. Select the clone stamp tool.  Set the options bar for the clone stamp to "use all layers", 50% opacity, soft brush.

Press your alt key down in the areas you want to copy from and click with your stamp tool. Then Without the alt key, apply the stamp tool with 50% opacity soft brush.  Work in similar shaded areas to duplicate these areas to the scratches, and stains on the image.

3. Highlight this top layer and click layer=> merge down.

4. When you are done working the image itself, it is time to do the outside of the image. Use your rectangular marquee to select the rectangle of the photograph where your baby is. Then click select=> inverse. use your dropper tool to select a shade of off white for the outside of the image from the bottom of this photo. Using a soft 100 pixel paint bush, paint the top of the selection, and the two sides next to the image.

5. Use your magic wand on the white are of the bottom of the are where the text is, set to tolerance of 60 and contiguous checked. Then click edit=> fill. Set to your foreground color at 100%.

6. Apply a sepia tone using the sepia action. Open the actions panel by clicking windows=> actions. Select the default action for Sepia Toning. Click the right hand carrot on the actions panel and select play.
