Cleaning up the Fringe when making Transparent GIF's

1. Open up the your file in Photoshop. Click :Layer=>New=> Layer from
Background
2. Use the magnetic lasso tool with antialias UNchecked to click around the outline of the goose
you want to isolate for your transparent gif.
3. When you have encircled your image, click the mask button in the
bottom of the layers palette. Adjust the mask by using black on the mask to
hide areas and white to show areas.

When you have the mask adjusted, right click on the mask and select "apply
mask"
5. We now need to remove the white fringe around the image. Click
Layer=>Matting=> Remove white matte
6. There are still pixels around the image that are
nearly white. We will need to blend them with the rest of the image. Click
Layer=> Matting=>Defringe. Set the defringe to the number of pixels you
believe you need to affect a change in from the outside the image. This more
or less blends the colors from inside the image to outside, say 10 pixels in
this example.

7. Crop your image by using the Rectangular marquee and clicking Image =>
Crop.
8. Saving your image: Click File=>Save for the web as.
- Set the image type to GIF
- Check the box for transparency
- Set the colors to web colors, the color number will be automatic. In
this case, my image came up with 36 colors.
- Image size inspection: At 36 colors my image is 5k, located on the
lower left of the image.
- Adjust the download size of the image by adjusting the lossy, dither
and the number of colors. Object is to adjust these so that you can not
see a difference in the image, yet get a reduced file size.
