Camera Lens

1. Open a new document that is 500 px X 500 px, RGB, 144 ppi, white background.

2. Hit your D key to set default colors. Add a layer. Select the elliptical marquee tool set to the option of fixed size 400 px by 400 px. click in your canvas to get a circular marquee. Click Edit=> fill. Set the fill to black.

3. Duplicate layer 1 called outer ring. Control click the layer. Click select=> modify=> contract. Set the contract to 15 pixels. Click your backspace key. Control click the layer. Select your gradient tool. Draw a linear gradient from the lower right corner of the image to the upper left corner of the canvas.

4, Right click on your layer and select blending options. Check bevel and emboss. Set the following:

  • style=Pillow emboss
  • Technique = smooth
  • depth = 100%
  • size = 5 pixels
  • soften = 0
  • angle = 120
  • altitude = 30
  • gloss contour = Gaussian


5. Insert a new layer called ring1. Set the elliptical marquee to a fixed size of  360 px by 360 px and click in this layer. Click Edit=> Stroke. set to

  • 4 pixel
  • center
  • color= grey hex value #CCCCCC
  • mode= normal
  • opacity = 100%


6. Right click on this ring 1 layer and select blending options. Check Bevel and emboss and Set the following:

  • Style = inner bevel
  • Technique = smooth
  • depth = 100%
  • size = 5
  • soften = 0
  • Angle = 120
  • Altitude = 30
  • gloss contour = Linear.


7. Insert a new layer called Ring 2. Select your elliptical marquee set to a fixed size of 240 high by 240 wide. Click in your canvas so the ring is within the borders of last ring.


Click Edit => Stroke. Set the stoke to

  • 10 pixel
  • center
  • Grey hex #CCCCCC
  • mode= normal
  • opacity = 100%


8. Right click on the ring 2 layer and select blending options. Check bevel and emboss and set the following:

  • Style = Inner bevel
  • Technique = chisel hard
  • Depth = 100 %
  • Direction = up
  • size = 6 px
  • Soften = 0
  • angel = 120
  • altitude = 30
  • Gloss = Gausian.

Click Select => deselect.


9. Add a link to each of the layers except the background white layer. Select your move tool. On the move tool options bar click the options to align vertical centers. Then click the move tool options to align the horizontal centers.

 

10. Unlink the layer 1 black circle from the rings. Highlight the top layer ring 2 and click Layer=>merge linked. This will leave you with a background, layer 1, and Ring2. 

11. Chose your magic wand tool. Click between the 2 rings on the ring 2 layer. Click back on your Layer 1 layer. Insert a new layer, layer2. hit your D key to set default colors. Select your gradient tool. Draw a linear gradient from the lower right corner of the image to the upper left corner of the canvas.

12. Click Filter => noise=> Add noise. Set the noise to the following:

  • amount = 10
  • distribution = Gaussian
  • Monochromatic checked.


13. Click Filter=> Blur=> Radial Blur. Set the blur to the following:

  • Amount = 25
  • Blur method = spin
  • Quality = draft.

Repeat the radial blur.
14. Click Filter=> Render=> Lighting effects.

  • spotlight default settings.
  • move the circle of light on the left so that it is the same diameter as your outer ring, and rotate so that the light source comes from about 1 pm. move the center to the right and down a small amount.


15. Right click on your layer 2 and select blending option. Put a check in the drop shadow. Link this layer to layer 1 and ring2 layers.

16. Add a new layer on top of these layers called "inner ring1". Select the elliptical marquee tool set to a fixed size of 100 pixels high by 100 pixels wide. Click in your image so the selection is approximately in the center of the nearest ring. We will line up these inner rings together in a minute.

Click Edit=> Stroke. Set the stroke to the following:

  • width = 3 pixel
  • Color = hex #333333
  • Location = center
  • Blending = normal
  • opacity = 100%

17. Add a layer called "inner ring 2". Set the elliptical marquee tool to a fixed size of 88 wide by 88 high and click inside this last circle. Apply the same stroke as in 16.

18. Add a new layer called "inner ring 3".  Set the elliptical marquee tool to a fixed size of 76 wide by 76 high and click inside this last circle. Apply the same stroke as in 16.

19. Add a new layer called "inner ring 4".  Set the elliptical marquee tool to a fixed size of 64 wide by 64 high and click inside this last circle. Apply the same stroke as in 16.

20. Click select=> deselect. Link all layers except the white background layer. Use your move tool options as in #9 to align horizontally to center and vertically to center.

21. Unlink the layers. Link only the inner ring layers 1-4.

22. Click on the layer "inner ring 1". Click Filter=> Noise=> add Noise. Set the noise to the following:

  • Amount = 35 %
  • distribution = uniform
  • Monochromatic = checked.

23. Right click the "inner ring 1" layer and select blending options. Set the blending options to Bevel and emboss.

24. Add 25 % noise to "inner ring 2", 15 % noise to "inner ring 3", and 5% noise to "inner ring 4".

Continue to part 2 to add glass lenses and writing on the lens.
