Using the Trace Feature to Focus an Image

  • You will need this image to complete this tutorial

1. Open a New Movie. Set the background to black, the size to 72 wide by 190 high by

  • in MX clicking on your movie stage and opening your properties panel set the color using the olor swatch. click the size button and set the size.
  • In Flsh 5 right click on your movie stage and select properties. set the color swatch for background here and the size in the height and width boxes.
 

2. Import your image of the girl into your movie by clicking File=> import. Find the file and click ok.

3. Use your Move tool to position the girl into your stage.

6. Insert keyframes in frames 3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21,23,25 by clicking in each of these frames on thetimeline and hitting your F6 key.

7. On frame 1 highlight image. Select insert=>convert to symbol. Set to name = 1, properties = movie clip. Double click the symbol 1 to open it. Highlight the image. Click modify=> trace bitmap. Set threshold to250, minimum area =5

8. Repeat # 7 for the following frames with the following settings changes.

9. Right click on Layer 1 and insert a new layer called actions. Click on frame 25 and hit your F6 key to add a key frame.

  • In flash MX open your action panel. Click + => ACtions => Movie control=> Stop.
  • In flash 5, Open you action panel by clicking window=> action and click + =>basic actions => stop.

You can add to your movie by bringing it out of focus and back in, or loop it back to the out of focus. You can put a stop in each frame and use button actions to bring it to the next frame or back a frame. The possibilities are endless!
