Dynamic Text Box Content
1. Open the loadvariable.fla file in flash. Make sure you save both
text and fla in the same location on your hard drive. This is a template
with some major areas missing and non functional buttons.

Click on the top layer. Click the button on the layers panel to add a
layer. Call the layer Dynamic text. Make sure your
3. Select your type tool. Set the type tool properties on the
properties inspector to the following:
- Dynamic Text
- Font = Times New Roman
- Font size = 12
- Color = black
- Alignment = left
- multiline.

Create a text box on your stage in frame one of the dynamic text layer.
Use the handle on the bottom right to adjust the size of the box and
select your arrow tool to adjust the text box positioning on the stage.
5. With the text box highlighted, set the text box to the variable "mainpage"
by typing mainpage in the Var box on the properties inspector. Save your
fla file.

Open the text file, template1.txt. Add the statement "mainpage=" to the
beginning of the text file (minus the quotes).
Save your text file in the same location as your fla. Close your
file.

Back in your loadvariable.fla movie, Insert a new layer above the
dynamic text layer. Call this layer scripts. Highlight frame 1 of the
scripts layer.
8. Open your actions panel. Select
Actions=> Browser/Network=> Load Variables.

When the script is in the script box on the right, you will see the
parameters above. Type in the url as the file name, template1.txt. Since
the filename represents the relative path to the text file. You can also
use absolute pathway here. Set the location to level =0, and the
variables to Don't send.
10. Test your movie! The text file should show up in your text box. |
